PMDC Registration Guide for Foreign MBBS Graduates — Article 2 of 5. Read Article 1 — What is PMDC? first if you have not already.

What This Guide Covers — And What You Need to Know First

PMDC registration for a foreign MBBS graduate is not a single form submission. It is a multi-stage process that starts with document verification and ends only after you have passed both NRE Step-1 and Step-2. Many students make the mistake of thinking registration happens before the NRE — it does not. The NRE is part of the registration pathway, not something you do separately.

This guide covers the full process in the correct order: what documents you need, how to use the PMDC portal, what mistakes delay most applications, and what the realistic timeline looks like from the day you return to Pakistan.

📌 One Critical Fact Before Anything Else
Your foreign university must be on the PMDC recognised institutions list before you can apply for anything. If your university is not recognised, no document, certificate, or appeal will get you registration. Check this on the official PM&DC website the moment you see this guide — ideally before you even graduate.

Documents Required for PMDC Registration — Foreign MBBS Graduate

How to Register on the PMDC Portal — 7 Steps

Once all documents are attested and ready, follow these steps on the official PM&DC online portal. Do not use any third-party website or agent — the official portal is the only legitimate registration channel.

1
Create Your Account on the PM&DC Portal
Go to the official PM&DC website and create a new account using your CNIC number and a valid email address. Use an email you actively check — all correspondence including your registration number and exam notifications will come here. Do not use someone else’s email.
2
Select “Foreign Graduate Registration” Category
After logging in, select the correct application category — Foreign Medical Graduate. Do not select “local graduate” or any other category. Selecting the wrong category means your application will be rejected and you will need to restart.
3
Fill in Personal and Academic Details
Enter your personal information exactly as it appears on your CNIC and passport. Enter your university name, country, graduation year, and degree details. Any mismatch between what you enter and your documents will flag your application for manual review — which can add weeks to processing time.
4
Upload All Required Documents
Upload scanned copies of all attested documents. Scan requirements: clear, colour scans at minimum 300 DPI, in PDF or JPG format as specified. Blurry, cropped, or low-resolution scans will be rejected. Scan each document yourself — do not photograph with a phone camera unless the image quality is clearly readable.
5
Pay the Registration Application Fee
Pay the PMDC application fee through the available payment channels listed on the portal. Keep your payment receipt. Fee amounts are updated periodically — always check the current fee on the official portal, not from older guides or social media posts which may have outdated figures.
6
Submit and Wait for Verification
Submit your application and note your application tracking number. PMDC will verify your documents — this typically takes 2 to 4 weeks. You may receive a query letter if any document is unclear or missing. Respond to queries within the time window specified or your application will lapse.
7
Receive NRE Eligibility — Begin Exam Preparation
Once your documents are verified, PMDC will confirm your eligibility to sit the NRE. You will now be able to register for NRE Step-1. This is the point where most students make a critical error — they wait. Begin NRE Step-1 preparation the day your documents are submitted, not after verification. Use the waiting period productively.

7 Common PMDC Registration Errors — And How to Avoid Them

These are the errors that delay PMDC registration by weeks or months for foreign graduates every year. Every one of them is avoidable if you know about it in advance.

❌ Name Mismatch Across Documents
Your name on your CNIC, passport, degree, and transcripts must match exactly — including spelling variations. “Muhammad” vs “Mohammad,” “Hasan” vs “Hassan” are flagged automatically. If there is a mismatch, resolve it with NADRA before applying.
✅ Fix: Check all documents for identical spelling before submitting
❌ Selecting Wrong Registration Category
Selecting “local graduate” or another category by mistake sends your application into a completely different processing queue. The error is not always caught immediately — you may wait weeks before receiving a rejection.
✅ Fix: Always select “Foreign Medical Graduate” — double check before submitting
❌ Low Quality Document Scans
Phone camera photos passed off as scans are the most common upload error. PMDC reviewers must be able to read every word clearly. Blurry, dark, or cropped scans will be flagged for resubmission — which restarts your queue position.
✅ Fix: Use a flatbed scanner at 300 DPI minimum, full page visible
❌ No Internship Certificate or Invalid Internship
Some graduates attempt to register before completing their internship, or with an internship certificate from an unrecognised hospital. PMDC requires a valid one-year internship completion certificate from a recognised teaching hospital.
✅ Fix: Complete internship first, obtain certificate on hospital letterhead with seal
❌ Not Responding to PMDC Query Letters
PMDC may send a query letter requesting a clarification or additional document. Many applicants miss these letters because they do not check their registered email regularly. Missing the response deadline can lapse your entire application.
✅ Fix: Check your registered email every 2–3 days after submission

PMDC Registration Timeline — From Graduation to Full Registration

This is the realistic timeline for a foreign MBBS graduate who starts the process promptly after returning to Pakistan. Delays at any stage compound — which is why starting early is always better.

Stage Duration Key Action
PMDC portal application and verification 2–4 weeks Submit once all documents are ready
NRE Step-1 preparation 3–6 months Begin Day 1 — do not wait
NRE Step-1 exam and result 2 weeks after exam Register for exam via PMDC portal
NRE Step-2 preparation 4–6 weeks Begin immediately after Step-1 result
NRE Step-2 exam and result 2 weeks after exam Station-based OSCE practice essential
Final PMDC registration issued 2–4 weeks PMDC registration number issued
💡 The Smart Strategy — Overlap Everything
Do not do these stages one after the other. The students who complete registration fastest are those who submit HEC attestation and equivalence simultaneously, apply to PMDC the day their documents are ready, and begin NRE Step-1 preparation on day one — while documents are still being processed. Time spent waiting for one process is time that can be used for another.

Your PMDC Registration Number — What It Means and How to Check It

After passing both NRE steps and completing the final registration process, PMDC issues your permanent PMDC registration number. This number is your medical licence in Pakistan — permanent, unique to you, and verifiable by anyone online.

🔢 How to Check Your PMDC Number Online
Go to the official PM&DC website → click “Practitioner Search” → enter your name or CNIC → your registration details and number will appear if you are registered. This is the same system hospitals use to verify a doctor’s credentials. If your name does not appear, your registration is not yet complete.

Your PMDC number gives you access to: Legal medical practice in Pakistan · House job applications · FCPS Part 1 registration · USMLE, PLAB, HAAD, AMC applications using your Pakistani licence

PMDC Registration FAQs — Foreign Graduates

How do I check my PMDC registration number online?
Go to the official PM&DC website and use the “Practitioner Search” or “Doctor Search” function. Enter your name or CNIC number. Your registration details, including your PMDC number and registration status, will appear if your registration is complete. This search is publicly available — any hospital or patient can verify your credentials through the same portal.
Can I submit documents online or do I need to visit PMDC in Islamabad?
The initial application is submitted through the online portal. However, PMDC may call you for physical document verification at a later stage depending on your application. Check the current requirements on the portal — procedures do change. Do not travel to Islamabad without confirming whether an in-person visit is required for your specific case.
What is PMDC registration renewal and when do I need it?
PMDC registration requires periodic renewal — typically every few years. You will receive a reminder through your registered email or the portal. PMDC licence renewal is a separate process from initial registration and involves a renewal fee. Keep your contact details updated on the portal so you do not miss renewal notifications.
Can I register with PMDC before completing my internship?
No. A completed internship certificate is a mandatory requirement for PMDC registration. You can begin gathering other documents and get HEC attestation done, but final registration cannot proceed without proof of internship completion from a recognised teaching hospital.
What is the PMDC online registration check — how do I track my application?
After submitting your application, log back into the PMDC portal using your credentials and check your application status under “My Applications” or equivalent section. You can also contact PMDC helpline with your application tracking number if the status has not updated in more than 4 weeks.
Do I need a separate application to sit the NRE after PMDC document verification?
Yes. After your documents are verified and you receive NRE eligibility, you must separately register for each NRE sitting through the PMDC portal. NRE exam dates are announced periodically — keep checking the portal and your email for announcements so you do not miss a sitting.
